Predator Dragonfly Hunter of Nature
How much you know for the Dragonflies?
Dragonflies are indeed predators, both in their aquatic larval stage when they are known as nymphs or naiads, and as adults.
Several years of their lives are spent as nymphs living in freshwater; the adults may be on the wing for just a few days or weeks. They are fast, agile fliers, sometimes migrating across oceans, and often live near water. My pillow in the bedroom from Zara home states dragonflies.
Loss of wetland habitat (the ecosystem that is inundated by the water where oxygen-free processes prevail) threatens dragonfly populations around the world.
Dragonflies are represented in human culture on artifacts such as pottery, rock paintings, and Art Nouveau Jewellery. They are used in traditional medicine in Japan and China and caught for food in Indonesia.
They are symbols of courage, strength, and happiness in Japan, but seen as sinister in European folklore, moreover of transformation, change in life, and self-realization.
Dragonflies may forecast their prey movements like mammals
Dragonflies use their skills when hunting for insects, many of which take refuge in swarms, by locking onto a single target, and ignore any distractions as they dive in for the attack.Instead of just following their target through time and space along a straight line as most insects are thought to do, they are able like mammals to predict the future location of their prey.
Insects in general, would just give up the chase once an object disappears from its vision.
Studies and articles imply that this insight ability of the dragonflies will be useful to science in order to develop safer and more capable autonomous robots, whether they be self-driving vehicles (which, like dragonflies, are moving objects that need to predict the trajectory of other moving objects), or flying robots used for reconnaissance patrols.
Modern commerce utilizes the symbol of Dragonfly in Jewellery with necklaces, rings, pins, Home Decoration items like decorative pillows, curtains, table runners, wallpapers & textiles.
