Sky Ocean Ventures in new ideas
Sky has launched Sky Ocean Ventures an impact investment vehicle that will invest in new ideas and businesses who can help solve the oceans plastic crisis.
With Sky’s cornerstone commitment of £25m and the ambition to quickly scale up to £100m with the support of other businesses, Sky Ocean Ventures will seek to find solutions to everyday plastic problems.
Sky Ocean Ventures is encouraging, among others, businesses and innovators who are developing plastic packaging alternatives, new tech for the home that will help assist recycling and those developing alternative fibres for clothing to share their ideas and seek support.
Ideas could include alternatives to coffee cups, plastic bottles and plastic bags as well as tech that foster a virtuous recycling circle between consumers, retailers and local authorities.
Sky will bring its deep consumer knowledge and entrepreneurial experience to Sky Ocean Ventures to support these initiatives and to create meaningful change.
Alongside Sky Ocean Ventures, Sky is also launching Innovators in Residence, an incubator project that will offer businesses the opportunity to pilot and test their products at Sky’s London campus. This will enable businesses to gain insight on consumer responses and the practicality of their products in live environments while also receiving mentoring and drawing upon the expertise of Sky’s teams.
Sky Oceans Ventures is looking for companies creating:
Scalable innovations along the entire plastics value chain, from material innovation to end of life; Technology-enhanced business models that foster more responsible consumption by consumers and businesses; and efficiency improvements in the recycling, clean-up and treatment of waste plastics that can create a more circular economy approach.
Sky Oceans Ventures is keen to support innovative projects related to Sustainable and Responsible Consumption and projects for Life Below Water
The immense need after all is to reduce plastics leakage into our environment, increase awareness around the effects of plastics and improve the plastics value chain to create a more sustainable approach.
They will support innovators who believe that this is a problem that can be solved and have a clear vision on how to achieve this.
Welcoming the company’s website suggests if you have a solution that you believe can drive change in the way we use, recycle, and ultimately value plastics then you have to contact the company.
Sea Ocean Ventures knows the plastics value chain is broken and requires new unconstrained thinking to create a new system. The company is fostering an innovation ecosystem with partners to invest at the earliest stages with the most ambitious innovators.
