Sicily is my love Sicilian aesthetics and state of the art technology
meet in this collaboration between Dolce&Gabbana and Smeg, by joining creative forces in a truly authentic Made in Italy project, Sicily is my Love.
Affiliated to different creative sectors, Smeg and Dolce&Gabbana are both bound by strong values of Made in Italy that result in passion and profound creativity.
Sicily is my love is a unique collection of domestic appliances created by Smeg with distinct Dolce&Gabbana decorative motifs.
This colorful collaboration is an adjunct to the bespoke FAB by Smeg fridges hand-painted by Sicilian artists, revealed last year. Like the FABs, the small appliances are also adorned with Dolce&Gabbana’s signature decorative style.
The collection is composed of a slow juicer, blender, toaster two and four slices, citrus juicer, and kettle. These are available for purchase through authorized retailers and online on the Sicily is my love online store.
Toasters, citrus juicers, coffee machines, kettles, blenders, stand mixers and slow juicers all decorated with gold lemons, citrus fruits, prickly pears, and bright red cherries are just some of the typical Sicilian decorations framed in triangular motifs called crocchi: there are also delicate floral motifs inspired by the coasts and landscapes of Southern Italy and images of fascinating Mt. Etna, surrounded by ornamental friezes, picturesque ruins of the Greek temple of Castor and Pollux in the Valley of Temples, trinacrie and cartocci, a decorative motif similar to stylised acanthus leaves.
All symbols of an aesthetic inextricably associated with Sicily, home to the souls of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, and more generally with Italy and its cuisine of which Smeg has always been an interpreter of excellence.
These pieces of art have a big story. Food, the products typical of Southern Italy, the ancient traditional dishes – are the roots to which the heart and mind cannot but return, inspired by these small but precious kitchen appliances which are the fruit of Smeg’s longstanding experience in the design appliances sector.
The Slow Juicer, bright bursts of color and typical Sicilian fruits define its decoration. Blender is characterized by a bright yellow base with traditional Sicilian decorations. The Two and the Four-Slice Toaster are inspired by beautiful terracotta pots decorated in the style of the Sicilian cart. Traditional Sicilian handicraft is the inspiration for the decorations of the 2-slice toaster. These marvelous objects are adorned in the manner of bummuli and quattare, typical terracotta vases from Sicily painted in the same style as the traditional cart. The iconography features various types of birds, including majestic roosters and sailboats heading off towards the Mediterranean horizon.
The kettle is characterized by the unique Sicilian cart motifs and colorful patterns. The citrus juicer tells an all-Sicilian story, adorned with different bright and vivacious colors.
It was 2016 when we saw the collection of the fridges from Dolce & Gabbana for Smeg. This majolica fridge, was a triumph of blues and whites, which, in addition to recreating the chromatic atmosphere of a typical Sicilian kitchen, embodies the spirit of the island in the acanthus leaves, lilies and geometric majolica patterns. The central panel features a temple of Greco-Doric origin, on the left side, among classic majolica motifs, is a view of the Sicilian coast, while the opposite side depicts the birthplace of one of the region’s most illustrious native sons, Luigi Pirandello.
Inspired also by the carrettelle, recalling the traditional Sicilian vehicle in its forms and colors. On the front of the refrigerator bright yellow fret patterns that evoke the sun of the Mediterranean island, along with a cartwheel, homage to one of the quintessential symbols of Sicilian craftsmanship. In the center a large oval that frames a composition of fruits from the land of the Trinacria: lemons, prickly pears, pomegranates, grapes, oranges and blossoming tangerines against an orange background and surrounded by checkerboard motifs.
Soon the new collection launched will be available in the market.
But no, it does not end here. Taste the Dolce & Gabbana panettone.
The collaboration between the creativity of Dolce&Gabbana and the confectionery artistry of Fiasconaro results in a unique recipe: the typical Milanese panettone, revisited with the flavors of Sicily.
In the online shop of the fashion house, discover how Dolce&Gabbana’s style and the confectionery artistry of Fiasconaro blend into a unique recipe of extraordinary flavor. The collaboration between the creativity of Dolce&Gabbana and the confectionery artistry of Fiasconaro results in a unique recipe: the typical Milanese panettone, revisited with the flavors of Sicily.
An artisanal product that combines a stylish design with that of pastry; the panettone is produced in two variations: one 1 kg Sicilian Pistachio panettone covered in white chocolate (with a velvety Pistachio cream in a special jar); and one with Sicilian Citrus fruits and Saffron, available in both 1 kg and 100 g sizes.
The love for artisanal production, the respect for traditions, and the courage to experiment are all essential aspects needed to achieve the magical combination of style and taste in the creation of these panettones.
Making these panettones even more desirable are the tin boxes that contain them
Expressly designed by the most famous Sicilian artisans, these brightly colored and illustrated boxes are inspired by the decorative motifs of Sicilian carts and the characters of the traditional puppet theatres, rendering them precious objects to collect. Furthermore, the 1kg panettone is also available to purchase with a decorated tray. Also in the tin, this tray can be kept as a collector’s item.
Thanks to these extraordinary panettoni, the style of Dolce&Gabbana and the confectionery artistry of Fiasconaro tell a unique story of Italian excellence, knowledge, and love for high quality food.
